The Weekly Edge - Sharpen Your Edge

The Weekly Edge

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger

“The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

There are a number of ways to improve your health. Some start by going on a diet. Others start going to the gym. And, still others begin by jogging. Unfortunately, there is more often failure than success with these approaches. Not because people are weak but because they fail to identify and address the four pillars that can bring them success. 1/ They first need to improve their breathing. 2/ Then they need to improve there sleep. Only then can they 3/ focus on losing weight and 4/ building muscle. Of course mastering mindset strategies that improve their chances of success help seal the deal.

DID YOU KNOW?
Mouth breathing reduces oxygen intake by 10–20%, which impacts endurance, cognitive clarity, and mood.
80% of people fail to keep new health habits longer than 6 weeks, largely due to stress, lack of sleep, and fatigue.
Breathing through the nose during exercise increases fat oxidation compared to mouth breathing.

TRY THIS: If you have problems breathing consistently in and out through your nose, try the following breathing exercise. If you can breathe consistently through your nose, try to do so during a mild to moderate exercise such as a fast paced walk.

A Yogic breathing exercise called Nadi Shodhana: Close your right nostril with your thumb and inhale through the left nostril, then close the left nostril and exhale through the right. Switch nostrils after each inhale and exhale. Repeat for 2 to 5 minutes.
